Ivanhoe, Texas -- What do you do if you are a Class 1A team that gets placed in a district that is comprised mostly of Class 2A teams? If you are the Dodd City Hornets, you sweep the district and go 14-0.
In a game that featured excellent pitching by both teams, the Hornets completed an undefeated District 12-2A campaign with a 2-0 win Monday evening over the Sam Rayburn Rebels.
Three Sam Rayburn pitchers combined to toss a two-hitter against the potent Dodd City offense, but Hornet hurlers Brayden Vaught and Landon Allen countered with a no-hitter. Vaught pitched the first four innings to get the win.
Dodd City went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning and added a run in the third for the close game's only two runs.
Allen went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Logan Lackey was 1-for-2 and scored the only two runs in the game.
Dodd City, the top-ranked Class A program in Texas, moves to 19-1 on the year and 14-0 in district to be crowned the District 12-2A champions. The Hornets will face Savoy this weekend in bi-district, however details are still being finalized.
"This is a really fun bunch of young men that I have playing this year," stated Dodd City head coach Clint Lindsey. "They come ready every day and strive to become better. I have four seniors who are eager to make it as far as we can and teach my younger guys what it takes to be a good ball club. I am proud and it is an honor to coach these young men."
