Dodd City, Texas -- Dodd City sophomore Austin Weeks is the boys singles regional tennis champion and has earned the right to advance to the UIL State Tennis Meet.
Although a relative newcomer to the sport -- Austin started playing tennis last year -- he is a versatile athlete and quickly worked his way up the ranks, despite being unable to compete at the varsity level last year due to the pandemic.
Austin enjoys baseball, swam for the Denison Dolphins Swim Team and plays basketball, but he fell in love with tennis and, after taking lessons in McKinney, he has aspirations of taking his game to the collegiate level.
All those hours of practice paid off when Austin won the first regional tournament he competed in and now the Dodd City sophomore will get a shot at a state title May 20 in College Station at the UIL State Tennis Meet.
