Leonard, Texas -- The Dodd City Hornets hammered out 14 hits in a five-inning, 17-1 win over the Leonard Tigers, while Kason Carson and Aaron Munger were combining to toss a one-hitter.
Dodd City had a 3-1 lead after the first inning before scoring four runs in the top of the second and then erupting for nine runs in the top of the third to extend the lead to 16-1. The Hornets added a run in the fifth inning and finished the day with a 17-1 victory on the road.
Carson got the start and the win, only giving up one hit in the first three innings. Munger came on in relief in the fourth inning and didn't allow a hit for the remainder of the game.
Brayden Vaught led Dodd City at the plate with a 4-for-4 game and four runs batted in.
Landon Allen, Ashton Balvin, Layton Vaught and Ethan Barnard all had two hits apiece.
Barnard drove in three runs, while Logan Lackey and Balvin both had a pair of RBIs.
With the victory, the Hornets move to 3-1 on the year.
Dodd City will travel to Celeste on Tuesday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. for the district opener.
