DODD CITY -- A decade which started with Dodd City as one of the region's top Class 1A boys basketball teams also ended well.
Last February, the Hornets claimed their first district title in boys basketball since 2011.
They did it with a 14-0 record in district play during the first season at Dodd City for Tyler White, the 23-1A coaching superlative winner.
Despite graduation losses -- the district's most valuable player and a second-team selection -- the Hornets, a 2019 area finalist, have resumed where they left off last year.
A 100-29 win over Pioneer Tech and Arts Academy on Jan. 17 improved Dodd City's record to 5-0 this season in 23-1A play, heading into a first-half showdown at Ector.
Amongst those who have returned from the 2018-19 team for the Hornets are senior Zayne Kennon, the district defensive superlative winner; sophomore Gunnar Wilson, the 23-1A newcomer of the year; and junior Brayden Vaught, an all-district honorable mention. All of whom were also a part last spring of Dodd City's 1A state semifinalist baseball team.
