Dodd City High School Robotics Team Announces Intent to Compete for the Third Year in a Row at CoCo BEST 2019 UIL Robotics Competition.
Media Release
10/21/19
This past Saturday, 10/19, the Dodd City Robotics Program attended the 2019 CoCo BEST Practice Day for the “Off The Grid” Challenge in Frisco, TX at Collin College Preston Ridge Campus. The Robotics Practice Day was frustrating and fruitful! The “DC Electric Stinger” robot left the DC Robotics lab built, but needing a programming update and troubleshooting. It came back Saturday afternoon, almost fully operational!
The DCHS Robotics Team will be competing at the UIL Sanctioned CoCo BEST Robotics Competition at Erickson Middle School in Allen, TX beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, 10/26. This years game theme is “Off The Grid”, and asks competitors to build, program, and market a prototype robot from mostly common materials that could assist electric power grid linemen workers during natural disasters. The competition is generally fierce between more than 30 high schools from 1A through 6A that will be in attendance with their robot creations.
The competition is based on a points system, and it focuses on several judged or refereed components where: the teams present a marketing presentation to a panel of judges; the teams build and man exhibit booths that are judged to give the team a mock trade show experience; the teams design T-shirts, logos, and marketing material including websites and business cards that are graded (This year’s DCHS BEST 2019 student made website is: https://sites.google.com/a/doddcityisd.com/dc-robotics-best-off-the-grid/ );
the teams are judged on their school spirit presence at the tournament along with their sportsmanship conduct; and the teams compete in an actual Robotics Tournament that consists of 12 to 14 rounds of intense arena style robotics competition. The teams will go head to head each round with a driver and a spotter to try to score the most points in the “Off The Grid” arena. The Hornet Swarm Band will be in attendance to root for our DC Robotics Team and their "DC Electric Stinger” Robot. All Hornet supporters are welcome, and encouraged to attend this exciting, fun, and FREE event. We need your spirit points, so please come out and support these hardworking gals and guys!
