DC hoops Pilliod, Hilliard on girls all-state tourney squad

Junior 5-8 forward Delaney Pilliod and sophomore 6-3 center Journie Hilliard of Dodd City placed on the 2019 UIL Girls Basketball State All-Tournament team for Class 1A, as selected by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. 

The duo received the notoriety after the Lady Hornets (34-4) on March 2 made their third-consecutive 1A state championship game appearance. Defending-champion Nazareth defeated Dodd City, 54-33. 

In the championship game, Pilliod had 12 points via four 3-pointers, Hilliard had 14 rebounds and five points and each made two steals. 

Hilliard scored a game-high 22 points with 11 rebounds and the Lady Hornets led from the start of a 52-33 defeat of Moulton on Feb. 28 in their state semifinals game. 

Pilliod garnered six points, six rebounds and four assists for Dodd City in the same semifinal.
