Mansfield, Texas -- The Dodd City Lady Hornets will be making their third consecutive appearance in the final four after the Lady Hornets defeated the Slidell Lady Hounds in the Region III-A championship game Saturday afternoon at Mansfield High School.
With a trip to the UIL State Tournament in San Antonio on the line, Dodd City led from start to finish against Slidell. The Lady Hornets jumped out to an 11-4 lead at the first buzzer and led by 11 points, 23-12, at halftime.
Dodd City had a 15 point cushion going into the fourth quarter and cruised to a 37-27 victory to qualify for a three-peat to the UIL State Basketball Tournament.
Every game, a different Lady Hornet steps up to shoulder the scoring burden and it was sophomore Dani Baccus pouring in 18 points to lead all scorers in the regional championship.
Delaney Pilliod and Cassidy Herron each had five points, Journie Hilliard finished with four points and Marissa Mills put up two points.
On defense, Sarah Brent’s efforts have not gone unnoticed as she continues to face each team's toughest offensive match-up every game as the Lady Hornets worked their way to the state tournament.
With the victory, the Dodd City Lady Hornets move to 34-3 on the season.
Dodd City will face Moulton in the UIL State Tournament semifinals Thursday, February 28, 2019 in the Alamodome. Tip-off is set for 8:30 a.m.
