Dodd City turns back Tom Bean in tiebreaker

Dodd City, Texas -- In their 2024 home opener, Dodd City junior Addison Weeks knocked down 19 kills and freshman Gracyn Shindler put down a dozen kills as the Lady Hornets turned back Tom Bean in a five-set thriller.

Dodd City sailed through the first two sets with victories of 25-13 and 25-16, but Tom Bean took a competitive third set, 25-23, to work back into the match. A 25-17 win by Tom Bean in the fourth set tied the match at 2-2 and sent the teams back out onto the court for the tiebreaker.

With the contest on the line, Dodd City took over and pulled away for a 15-7 win to seal the match.

In addition to the big game by Weeks and Schindler, Emma Garner slammed down six kills and Kaleigh McBrayer had three kills.

Schindler dished out 13 assists, Kenzi Freeman had seven assists and Weeks handed out six assists.

Dodd City also had a big night at the service line. Weeks finished with eight aces, followed by Schindler (6 aces), Freeman (4 aces) and Garner (4 aces).

Weeks came up with a team-high 21 digs, with Schindler and McBrayer both getting under 18 digs. Garner had 11 digs, followed by Freeman (8 digs), Daniel (6 digs) and Kendyl Lindsey (5 digs).

Caroline Lackey, McBrayer and Garner all had one block apiece.

Dodd City will travel on Saturday to compete in the Detroit Volleyball Tournament. The Lady Hornets will be on the road again Tuesday when Dodd City visits Miller Grove.
