Gainesville, Texas -- The Dodd City Hornets put away the Perrin-Whitt Pirates in a regional quarterfinal doubleheader played Wednesday evening at Gainesville High School.
The Hornets opened the best-of-three series with an 11-0 shutout and followed up with an equally impressive 13-3 victory in the nightcap to eliminate the Pirates.
In game one, Dodd City's Hunter Haglund limited Perrin-Whitt to only three hits in a five-inning, 11-0 win.
Alex Helms, Haglund, Layton Vaught, Nate Van Huss, Maddox Lappin and Caysen Lappin all had one hit apiece.
Helms, Haglund and Maddox Lappin had two RBIs.
In game two, it was Van Huss getting the start and only giving up five hits in six innings of work.
The Hornets had a 6-0 lead after two innings and never looked back in a 13-3 victory.
Ethan Barnard and Gavin Shindler both had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Van Huss aided his own cause with three RBIs and Vaught drove in two runs.
Dodd City (14-5) advances to face Electra in the Region II-1A semifinals.
