Honey Grove, Texas -- In a showdown between two undefeated teams in District 11-2A, the Dodd City Hornets moved to 9-0 with an 8-4 win over the Honey Grove Warriors.
The Hornets led 3-2 after the first inning and increased their lead to 5-2 in the top of the second.
The Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a two-run game, but the Hornets answered with three runs in the top of the sixth to stretch their lead to 8-3.
Honey Grove picked up a run in the bottom of the sixth. A scoreless seventh inning gave Dodd City an 8-4 win on the road.
Ethan Barnard got the start for the Hornets and went the distance, striking out 10 and scattering six hits while only giving up one base on balls.
Nate Van Huss went 2-for-3, drove in two runs and scored once.
Layton Vaught was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.
Alex Helms, Hunter Haglund and Caysen Lappin all had one hit apiece.
Dodd City improves to 9-0 in district and 10-2 on the year.
Tuesday's rescheduled game between Honey Grove and Dodd City will be played Saturday, April 13 in Dodd City at 10:00 a.m.
