Graduation last spring took away the last two remaining starters from Dodd City's 2021 undefeated Class 1A State championship girls' basketball team.
Despite the departures -- including an all-state senior player -- the Lady Hornets have begun the 2022-23 season strongly.
Dodd City reached district play still undefeated -- 13-0, after winning its Craig Reed Invitational on Dec. 2 -- via returning players from last season's regional semifinalist team -- the school's eighth-consecutive to reach the girls' basketball regional tournament -- and varsity newcomers.
Senior Lindsey Mauppin, the District 23-1A offensive superlative winner last season, returns for second-year Lady Hornets' head coach Landon Dyer, the district coach of the year last season.
Juniors Addyson Chaney, a first-team all-district selection, and Natally Medina,, a second-team all-district selection, are also back for Dodd City which with the start of 23-1A play this month begins its pursuit of an 11th-consecutive undefeated district title and 13th-straight postseason.
