Dodd City Lady Hornets beat Leonard, fall to Chisum and Greenville Christian

Sulphur Springs, Texas -- The Dodd City Lady Hornets got in some good work Saturday in bracket play at the 2022 North Hopkins Volleyball Tournament and finished the day 1-2 against larger schools.

Dodd City, ranked No. 8 in last week's Texas Girls Coaches Association poll, put up a fight against a pair of Class 3A teams in the first two rounds of bracket action.

Chisum defeated Dodd City, 25-17 and 25-23, despite eight kills by Camryn McCarley.

In the next match, Dodd City knocked off the No. 18 team in Class 3A, Leonard. Dodd City won the opener, 25-20, Leonard took the second set, 25-11, and Dodd City came back to win the match with a 25-21 victory in the third set.

Dodd City freshman Addison Weeks slammed down six kills to lead the Lady Hornets, Lindsey Mauppin and Camryn McCarley finished with five kills apiece, Kadyn McCarley put down four kills and Hannah Burney had one kill.

Brianna Rodriguez handed out 16 assists, Addyson Chaney got under five digs and Autumn Brown had a pair of digs.

Greenville Christian topped Dodd City, 25-18 and 25-16, in the third match, with Kadyn McCarley's four kills pacing the Dodd City attack. Addison Weeks put down three kills, while Lindsey Mauppin and Camryn McCarley tossed down two kills apiece. Addyson Chaney contributed a kill.

The Lady Hornets will travel to Lone Oak on Tuesday, August 23 before competing in the Bonham Volleyball Tournament on Thursday, August 25 and Saturday, August 27.
