Leonard, Texas -- A dozen girls basketball teams arrived in Leonard on Wednesday to compete in the 61st Leonard Holiday Tournament, but by Friday night only two teams were left standing: the Whitesboro Lady Cats and the Dodd City Lady Hornets.
In the girls championship game, the Class A Lady Hornets held off the taller, Class 3A Lady Cats for three quarters before Whitesboro put together an 11-0 run that doomed Dodd City.
The Lady Hornets led 15-13 at the half and 21-17 going into the final period.
Dodd City had a 25-24 advantage in the fourth quarter before the 11-0 run gave Whitesboro a 35-25 lead with time running out.
Dodd City senior Lindsey Mauppin hit a basket and free throw to make the final score 35-28 in the title game.
